Description

Hostas are one of the most loved and popular garden plants. Their versatile use in a variety of garden positions, attractive foliage and huge variety of unique varieties ensure hostas have an almost invariable presence in any garden.

Hostas prefer moist, rich and well-drained soils. Hosta's large, dense leaves take up large amounts of water and nutrients, so if your soil is poor, sandy and dry, you should amend it by adding organic matter. You also need to ensure that the hosta is watered and fertilised regularly between April and August. Hosta can grow in one place without replanting for about 20 years, so choose where in the garden to plant it very carefully.

Another important point we want to make about the position of hostas in the garden is that they prefer and grow best in semi-shaded conditions (i.e. they should receive a minimum of 4 hours of sunshine, preferably morning sun). If hostas are planted in too shady a location (e.g. under evergreen trees or shrubs, including conifers, or under deciduous trees with large and dense crowns), they will grow too slowly and are more likely to not reach their full potential. If planted in too sunny a location, the hostas are likely not to survive and their leaves will burn during the hot summer months.

In the collection below, we believe every Hosta lover will find at least one variety in this collection to find a place for in their garden.
