Description

The hyacinth is a perennial of the Lily family (Liliaceae). It is native to Asia Minor, where it grows wild. It spread to Europe in the 15th century. It includes about 30 species and over 300 varieties. Its flowers consist of a racemose inflorescence with a specific, strong aroma. Blooms from late March to May in a variety of bright colors - white, yellow, pink, violet, red, blue.

The hyacinth is one of the most popular and most loved flowers in the Bulgarian yard.

The common hyacinth is one of the most common perennial bulbous plants. It has simple bell-shaped flowers that have a strong pleasant scent. They are arranged in dense or flaccid racemose inflorescences and are variously coloured - white, yellow, pink, red, blue, etc. A well-developed hyacinth should have at least 12 flowers on its flower stalk, which can reach up to 50. The leaves are broadly oblanceolate, succulent, glossy, slightly pointed at the tip. Reaches 20-30 cm tall.

Hyacinths produce seeds, but are propagated vegetative by detaching the small bulbs. In some varieties, however, propagation is too slow because many but small bulbs are formed. So use a little trick - before planting, split the bottom of the old bulb crosswise. Planting should be done in autumn.

The hyacinth is not a picky flower - it can grow in sunny places as well as in partial shade. It is a good idea to remove the bulbs each year after flowering and plant them immediately in a cozy new place, burying them in about 12 cm of soil.
